Aliens: Dark Descent – How To Stealth Kill

Aliens: Dark Descent is a game of patience, in which you have to balance making progress in its seemingly massive sandbox levels with not waking up the Xenomorph hive too much to the point where you have to make a quick escape. Even just alerting a few too many basic drones at once can be a disaster, but if you’re tired of skulking around slowly and praying you don’t get caught, there is a way of stealthily taking out enemies.

To stealth kill in Aliens: Dark Descent, players must first unlock a Recon Marine, which can be done after levelling up a Marine to level 3. You’re given the choice of two different classes each time, but unfortunately it’s random. You just need to keep training your Marines up and you will eventually earn the option to choose a Recon Marine.

Once you’ve added a Recon to your Marine, now you need to unlock a special upgrade. Go to Barracks, then select your Recon. Find Upgrade, then choose an Available Upgrade Slot. Spend 30 Materials here to unlock Silencer, which allows your Precision Shot to no longer generate noise, effectively allowing you to silently snipe Xenos.

Precision Shot is a Command Skill that can be used by slowing down time and choosing from the options at the bottom of the screen. Select Precision Shot, then target the Xeno that you want to take out to hit a headshot on them and silently insta-kill them as long as you have the Silencer upgrade. Bear in mind that this only insta-kills for Drones, Warriors, and other less strong aliens but can still do big damage to the big guys.

A couple of things to bear in mind with Precision Shot. Firstly, your Recon needs to have a clear line of sight to the target to be able to shoot them, and because you cannot individually move your Marines, it makes things a bit fiddly. Secondly, it also takes 2-3 seconds for the Recon to actually shoot, so bear that in mind and always try to stay as far away from a Xeno as possible while lining up your Precision Shot. It also requires a Command Point to execute, so it’s recommended that you have a couple of Marines with the Team Spirit attribute to allow you more Command Points to play with.

Aliens: Dark Descent is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X & S.
