Remnant II has a plethora of weapons that completely change the way you play. From shotguns, rifles, and SMGs to pistols, swords, and laser weapons, it’s safe to say this game has you covered with all things shooting and slicing. One weapon, in particular, is unique as it’s from Ford’s personal armoury and is an absolute beast to use, especially if you’re lucky enough to secure it in the early game. Here’s everything players need to know about Ford’s Scattergun and how to obtain it.

What is Ford’s Scattergun?

This gun is a 12-gauge shotgun that uses a wide spread of pellets to decimate enemies that get too close to your squad. It has a starter magazine size of 7 that can be increased through a variety of mods and upgrades. This high-damage weapon only has one flaw that will hold players back in the heat of the moment. It’s slow reload, paired with a limited magazine size, makes using this weapon against a swarm of enemies much more challenging. There are ways to counteract this, such as using the Gunslinger Archetype, whose skill activation will automatically reload the weapon and provide infinite ammo. Perfect for emptying double the magazine into a charging elite enemy.

There are 2 ways to obtain this weapon: one long-term, the other much shorter, depending on your campaign roll. The first is the easiest method, but not necessarily the best if you’re planning on using this weapon anytime soon. All gamers need to do is beat the campaign once; that means defeating the final boss on any difficulty and unlocking the Explorer Archetype. If you ever restart the game on a new campaign, you’ll be given the choice of selecting this class as a starting point. If you do so, the Explorer will spawn with Ford’s Scattergun.

If you’re enjoying the early hours of the game and want to use this powerful shotgun, then there’s no need to worry, as there is another way to unlock this weapon, but it may depend on your role.

To break it down, the key to obtaining this weapon through this method is in Yaesha, but more specifically, it needs to follow one of the few questlines found in this region. In an area called The Red Throne, players will come across The Eternal Empress straight down the path. If you keep your cool and abide by the empress’s wishes, she will task you with hunting down and killing an abomination. Simply do that, though it may take some time to traverse the jungles of Yaesha before facing this threatening boss.

It’s worth noting that if you get all angsty and threaten the empress, you’ll be put on a different reward path, which will prevent the player from getting this weapon. If that happens, simply reroll Yaesha in adventure mode to get this opportunity again.

Once you’ve defeated the abomination, return to the empress at your earliest convenience, and you will be rewarded with the Seal of the Empress. You might think that’s the end of that and move on to the next world, but this is Remnant II after all, which means there are secrets to be found. Don’t worry; you’ve done the hard part.

Return to the checkpoint within the Red Throne and make your way towards the empress again until the path splits into a crossroad. There should be 3 directions you can head in: left, right, and straight on. You’ll want to head towards the path that houses a library. There’s a selection of short stories to read if you fancy it, but entering that room with the ring equipped will unlock a secret door on the floor.

Upon doing so, head downward and rejoice at the rewards. There should be a chest with a bunch of scrap and materials that you’ll no doubt find useful in the long term, and at the opposite end is your hard-earned reward. The gun should be sitting on a pedestal, waiting for you. Pick it up and get shooting, because this weapon packs a serious punch and is certainly worth upgrading if shotguns are your thing.

This is just one of the many secrets that exist out in the twisted landscapes of Remnant II, and finding them all is going to be a challenge. Hopefully, this one can be ticked off your list. Now kick back and laugh at your overconfident enemies who think they can rush you now. If you were ever taken by surprise by a horde of root monstrosities getting in your face, that should no longer be a problem anymore.
