Remnant II: How To Unlock The Summoner Archetype

Among the starter classes of Remnant II, there is an abundance of secret Archetypes scattered throughout the game. One such Archetype is the Summoner, a class based around conjuring some of the enemies you’ll face off with and having them fight for you. Here’s everything you need to know about the minion-raising Summoner and how to get it.

Unlocking the Summoner

Getting this class is not as simple as obtaining the starter Archetypes, as the way to unlock it is partly based on RNG. To start, players will first have to find themselves in Yaesha, which could either be at the start for some players or one of the last few worlds on your campaign roll. Once there, you’ll simply have to play through the world as normal until you come across a Blood Moon. This is a rare scenario usually found in areas like The Far Woods, The Forbidden Grove, The Faithless Thicket, and more. If a Blood Moon doesn’t spawn, you can simply reload the area repeatedly by warping in and out via the World Stone.

Beneath its crimson glow, hidden throughout the level are small floating purple orbs that dart around aimlessly in certain locations of this tile set. The amount that spawns is entirely dependent on RNG, but you’ll want to explore the whole area to ensure you shoot them all. They are harmless, and one shot will deposit a currency called Blood Moon Essence (or Essence for short). This is what you’ll use to purchase the Archetype.

To spend your hard-earned Essence, you’ll want to seek out a Blood Moon Altar, hidden throughout the same level. There is a big blue icon on the map when you’re near it, so look out for that. Chances are, you would have found it farming the purple orbs, but if not, simply explore every crevice until it appears. It spawns in a different location for everyone, so just keep an eye out.

You’ll need 15 Essence to purchase an item called Faded Grimoire from the altar, then take it to Wallace in Ward 13, and the Summoner Archetype is yours. Players may find that getting all 15 in one run isn’t going to happen, and as Blood Moons are a rare occurrence, rerolling Yaesha in adventure mode is going to be key to acquiring all the Essence you’ll need.

The Summoner’s Core Abilities

The Summoner is a unique Archetype that focuses on conjuring minions to do your bidding. Similar to the handler, whose core skill set is about utilising companions to help share the dirty work, the Summoner takes that one step further, as every skill is tied to summoning different creatures for the right situation.

Their skills include:

Hollow Minion – Tired of getting staggered by these rolling nightmares? Turn the tide by Summoning up to 2 Root Hollow minions to annoy your foes and give them the same pain you experience when fighting a horde of these guys. It will cost you 15% of your max health but will never kill you. You can sacrifice them to deal damage to their surroundings while also reducing the abilities cooldown.

Flyer Minion – For some ranged support, summon the flying Root minion to dish out damage from afar. You can summon up to 2 of them at a cost of 10% of your max health each. Again, this won’t kill you. Hold the ability to sacrifice them, which will dish out small damage and spawn 3 homing projectiles.

Reaver Minion – If you just want some raw muscle to watch your back, then summon the Root Reaver. This hulking monstrosity will pack the punch and have the health to tank it too. You can only conjure 1, but it’ll cost you 35% of your max health. This won’t kill you, but it certainly will leave you vulnerable. However, you can’t argue with results. Just be cautious when you use this ability. Hold it down to sacrifice, dealing large damage in a decent radius, and unleash spore bombs, which bounce around and explode on enemy contact.

What Else Can You Get From the Blood Moon Altar?

The Blood Moon Altar offers other rewards outside of the Summoner Archetype that is worth acquiring if you intend to utilise its capabilities to their fullest. You might not want to skip out on these. There is the full set of Knotted Armour, which completes the look of the class but will set you back 25 Blood Moon Essence.

Outside of the looks, the altar also has numerous items that are built with the Summoner’s core traits and abilities in mind. One such item is the Soul Guard Ring, which grants the player a damage resistance buff that increases with each active summon. This will cost you 5 Essence, but it is totally worth it when you conjure up an army and act as the shield. In addition, a must-have for the Summoner is an amulet called the Soul Anchor that increases damage by 20% for 30 seconds when you use a summon ability. A powerful item for a high price, as it’ll cost you 10 Essence.

There is a melee weapon called the Blade of Gul that’ll also cost you 10 Essence. This isn’t a recommended item for a Summoner Build, but it’s still a fun weapon to use. Lastly, there’s a Sanguine Vapor concoction for 1 Essence that increases melee and ranged Lifesteal based on your damage output. You can pick these items up in any order you wish, even before the class if you want to try on the Summoner-themed armour set.

The Summoner Archetype is not an easy class to acquire, but it is well worth the time to have a small army at your disposal. When paired with the Handler, you’ll have a team of companions that can take on the most terrifying hordes. With the split aggro and passive bonuses, you’ll truly be a force that even the root will struggle to put down.
