Alchemy of Souls: Season 3 – Everything You Should Know

Alchemy of Souls
Alchemy of Souls

Alchemy of Souls is perhaps the best fantasy show that has ever emerged from South Korea. Its snappy dialog, witty sense of humor, action-packed moments, and world-class plot made those hour-long 30 episodes worth the binge. Two seasons of this critically acclaimed Netflix K-drama are out, and as it’s one with a most loving fanbase, the calls for Alchemy of Souls: Season 3 are on the high rise.

Unfortunately, neither Netflix nor the series’ production company have officially announced Alchemy of Souls: Season 3. The overarching plotline as well as the stories of individual supporting characters were wrapped up in the finale of Season 2. As it is now, a third season happening seems unlikely. Having said that, the show was a spectacular hit, and many other popular K-dramas such as Sweet Home have been renewed for follow-up seasons, so hope remains if only a little bit.

When Is Alchemy of Souls: Season 3 Coming Out?

Alchemy of Souls: Season 3 does not have a release date yet. Despite amazing reception and a successful run that ended with an even higher-rated finale, there’s still no word on when the show might return.

K-dramas that have proper conclusions such as Vincenzo, and now Alchemy of Souls, often don’t ever get renewed. There’s no specific reason for it, but that appears to be the pattern. The way things panned out in the series finale, there wasn’t any plot thread that was left incomplete, and because of that, odds are Alchemy of Souls: Season 3 will never happen.

A spin-off sequel on the other hand sounds feasible, however, the Hong sisters, the writers for the show, are currently working on an upcoming romance drama titled “Can This Love Be Translated”, so even if there is a sequel series planned, it won’t air until a couple of years from now.

Who Is In The Cast of Alchemy of Souls: Season 3?

Let’s say Alchemy of Souls: Season 3 is in the works, then many fans will be curious about the returning cast, and that’s rightfully so as the show has had a number of major changes in that regard throughout its run. Probably the most asked question is whether Jung So-min will ever be back as Mu-deok, or Nak-su. Sadly, it looks like that ship has sailed. Since Nak-su’s soul shifted bodies, Go Youn-jung has been playing the character, so she will continue to play the character if there is a third season.

Other cast members that should return include Lee Jae-wook as the protagonist Jang Uk, Hwang Min-hyun as Seo Yul, Yoo In-soo as Park Dang-gu, Yoo Jun-sang as Park Jin, Oh Na-ra as Maidservant Kim Yeon, Arin as Jin Cho-yeon, and the list goes on and on. Alchemy of Souls has dozens of amazing characters, and besides a select few villains like Jin Mu (Jo Jae-yoon) who are dead, you can bet that everyone will be reprising their roles.

It also goes without saying that Alchemy of Souls: Season 3 will feature a number of new characters. Who they may be we can’t be sure, but if speculation is welcomed, then perhaps after a time skip, the children of Jung Uk, Dang-gu, and Park Jin might become the stars of the show.
