The Sinner has become one of the most appreciated crime anthology series of all time. What started originally as a one-shot in 2017 became four seasons long thanks to the overwhelmingly positive fan reception, and today those fans are just as curious about when The Sinner: Season 5 will be released.
Unfortunately, there won’t be another season. The show had received yearly renewals up until 2021, that’s when Season 4 was still airing and production dropped the bomb that it would be the final season — which is quite similar to how another crime drama, Prodigal Son, met its end. Since it wasn’t announced beforehand that it’s the final season they were watching, viewers were under the impression that The Sinner: Season 5 will likely be made, but years later there’s still no sign of a series renewal. However, the show was among the most popular anthology series of the past decade, so its return isn’t totally out of the question.
When Is The Sinner: Season 5 Coming Out?
The Sinner: Season 5 does not have a release date. USA Network canceled the series after a four season run, afterwards the show neither found a new home on a different service nor did USA announce plans of a revival, so as it stands, a fifth season isn’t in the works.
However, while it’s true the show’s ratings weren’t what they used to be, it wasn’t axed simply because of them. USA Network’s desire to move away from scripted series also came into play, so perhaps The Sinner: Season 5 could happen if another streamer is interested in bringing back the show, specifically Netflix.
Netflix is known to have saved numerous shows that got canceled, the most noteworthy of which includes Lucifer. The service also frequently orders sequel and spin-off series for hit shows as is with Vikings: Valhalla, though yes, you can’t compare The Sinner to be on the same popularity spectrum as those two. That said, Netflix does already have its entire four seasons streaming, and if the watch time reaches a certain threshold, it may just order The Sinner: Season 5 or a possible spin-off.
Who Is In The Cast of The Sinner: Season 5?
Every season of The Sinner features detective Harry Ambrose in a new whodunnit, so the cast never remains the same — except for Sonya who appeared in both seasons 3 and 4. Along with the story, the location changes often too, and besides Harry and Sonya, there is no constant.
What that means for The Sinner: Season 5 is that if it ever gets made, Bill Pullman will be back as Harry Ambrose, and we may get to see Jessica Hecht reprise her role as Sonya Barzel as well, but it wouldn’t be surprising if she only gets name-dropped instead. There’s no way of knowing who else might appear in a future season, though fan casting has come true many times in the past, especially when Peter Dinklage was offered the role of Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones, so there’s no harm in naming your favorite celebrities for The Sinner: Season 5 on social media.
