Everybody likes mechs beating the oil out of each other, and everybody likes Dark Souls. So, it must have clicked for FromSoftware: why not make a game featuring both? Hence, Armored Core VI: Fires Of Rubicon, or simply Armored Core 6. But did it also click with them to add it onto every platform? Is Armored Core 6 coming to Nintendo Switch?

To put it simply, no, there are no plans of launching Armored Core 6 on the Nintendo Switch. The Switch is not listed in the platform choices displayed on the Armored Core 6 website.

It’s unlikely to come to the Switch in the future either. The newer FromSoftware games are incredibly demanding, and the Nintendo Switch simply doesn’t have the hardware to handle them.

Sure, FromSoftware could optimize Armored Core 6 to make it playable on the Switch. However, based on their previous games, the chances of that happening are low. As of today, the only FromSoftware game available on the Nintendo Switch is Dark Souls: Remastered.

Dark Souls Remastered on the Switch was well received, but that’s a remastered version of a game from 2011. A Nintendo Switch port for a game as hardware-demanding as Armored Core 6 might not even be possible.

About Armored Core 6

To describe Armored Core 6 briefly, imagine Dark Souls, Sekiro, or Elden Ring, but replace the characters with mech suits. But that’s not to say that “Oh, Armored Core 6 is just another soulslike game copying Dark Souls.” It is made by FromSoftware, the creator of all the games mentioned above. Armored Core 6 is possibly the next big soulslike game that will set new standards for the genre.

One of the biggest factors that sets Armored Core 6 apart from other soulslike games is the emphasis on ranged combat over melee. It makes sense to have futuristic robots to fight with missiles, guns, and lasers. The game still has some melee combat, as seen in the trailer. It’s just not the main focus now.

The challenge for FromSoftware now is to appease both soulslike games fans and Armored Core fans. Previous installments of Armored Core are nothing like modern soulslike games. They were simpler and more linear compared to the fast-paced action and vast world of something like Elden Ring.

Will they choose to appeal more towards the classic Armored Core fans or the modern soulslike fans? Ideally, they’ll strike a balance that will satisfy both parties.

Now, how about the plot? Admittedly, players tend to ignore the deeper plot points and lore of games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring. But for a brief synopsis, here you go.

Humanity discovers a new substance on a planet called Rubicon 3. They soon find out that this new discovery can be used to further their science and technology.

Instead, it causes a catastrophe that almost destroys the entire star system. Almost half a century later, the substance is rediscovered and the battle to obtain it starts anew.

If you’re worried about missing out on the plot by not playing previous installations, don’t be. All the Armored Core games are practically self-contained.

Armored Core VI: Fires Of Rubicon is scheduled to release on August 25th, 2023 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-ordering will give you early access to special customization items in-game.
