The Dungeons & Dragons fandom is on the rise after the recent hit of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and huge spotlight in Stranger Things. It’s not just the board game either, as video games based on D&D are also hot in demand. The biggest upcoming example is Baldur’s Gate 3, which is due for its full release in August 2023 on PC, with a PS5 release to follow a month later. But is Baldur’s Gate 3 also coming to Nintendo Switch?
Unfortunately, there are currently no plans for a Nintendo Switch port of Baldur’s Gate 3. This is probably due to the hardware limitations of the Switch.
Could it get a Nintendo Switch port sometime in the future? It’s possible. In fact, the full PC and PS5 versions of Baldur’s Gate 3 aren’t even coming out together. The PC version comes almost an entire month before the PS5 version. A Baldur’s Gate 3 port for the Xbox Series X & S is also currently in the works.
Although possible, it’s very unlikely. It’s one thing to port a game to Xbox Series X & S. It’s a completely different beast to make it Switch-ready. In the meantime, if you want to play Baldur’s Gate 3 while on the go, the Steam Deck can and will handle it.
About Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the third installment in a video game series based on D&D. You play as an adventurer in a fantasy RPG world.
To perform actions, you’ll need to roll 20-sided dice to see how well you perform. That’s not just during combat. Certain interactions with other characters are also decided through dice rolls.
This turn-based combat is a huge difference from the past two Baldur’s Gate games, which featured Real-Time with Pause (RTwP) mechanics. This change makes the game feel far smoother and more convenient for players.
The gameplay might be different, but the plot is still connected to the previous entries. The game takes place 120 years after Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn.
The plot starts with you being captured by Mind flayers. You manage to escape thanks to an attack that distracts them, but not before they implant a parasite into your brain. The parasite gives you special abilities, which you can use for the forces of good or evil.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has been in early access since 2020, but that’s about to change. The official release is on August 3rd, 2023 on PC through Steam and GOG. The PS5 version of the game comes out on September 6th, 2023. The exact date for the Xbox Series X & S release hasn’t come out yet.
